European Citizen 2020 Prize celebrated in Brussels and in Cyprus
On November 23rd, 2021, Prof. Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Professor of European Law and Reform, Head of the School of Law at UCLan Cyprus and Founder and Director of ICLAIM, as well as Dr. Katerina Antoniou, Lecturer in Tourism, School of Business and Management at UCLan Cyprus and Resident Expert at ICLAIM, were hosted by Ms. Vivian Kanari on the RIK show EU4U. The show featured the project Social Mediation in Practice, recipient of the European Citizen 2020 Prize from the European Parliament, on the occasion of the award ceremony taking place earlier in November at the European Parliament in Brussels. Prof. Laulhé Shaelou and Dr Antoniou discussed the development of the initiative from 2018 onwards and explained the applicability of social mediation as a conflict resolution tool available to all. The discussion mentioned specific examples of social mediation in practice and highlighted the creation of the Social Mediators Network. The programme (in Greek) can be viewed here
The European Citizen Prize was received on behalf of the Social Mediation in Practice project by Prof. Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Founder and Director of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Law, Alternative and Innovative Methods (ICLAIM), and Head of the School of Law at UCLan Cyprus. The Social Mediation in Practice project introduces the tool of mediation in the context of small-scale community conflicts as a non-formal tool for preventing, de-escalating, and resolving conflict. The project’s goal is to empower any individual to utilise this tool for facilitated dialogue in everyday tensions and disputes. The Social Mediation initiative, run and supported by ICLAIM and UCLan Cyprus, with funding respectively from the Institute of Citizenship, Society and Change at UCLan in the UK, the Centre for Sustainable Transitions at UCLan in the UK, and the British High Commission in Nicosia, remains active today with additional workshops for aspiring social mediators, and with the involvement of trained social mediators in the newly established Social Mediators’ Network.
Το βραβείο European Citizen 2020 στις Βρυξέλλες και στην Κύπρο
Στις 23 Νοεμβρίου 2021, η καθ. Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Καθηγήτρια Ευρωπαϊκού Δικαίου και Μεταρρύθμισης, Επικεφαλής της Νομικής Σχολής στο UCLan Cyprus και Ιδρυτής και Διευθύντρια του ICLAIM, καθώς και η Δρ Κατερίνα Αντωνίου, Λέκτορας Τουρισμού της Σχολής Διοίκησης και Επιχειρήσεων στο UCLan Cyprus και εμπειρογνωμόνων του ICLAIM, φιλοξενήθηκαν από την κα Βίβιαν Κανάρη στην εκπομπή του ΡΙΚ EU4U. Στην εκπομπή παρουσιάστηκε το έργο Κοινωνική Διαμεσολάβηση στην Πράξη, αποδέκτης του Βραβείου Ευρωπαίου Πολίτη 2020 από το Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο, με την ευκαιρία της τελετής απονομής που πραγματοποιήθηκε νωρίτερα τον Νοέμβριο στο Ευρωπαϊκό Κοινοβούλιο στις Βρυξέλλες. Η καθηγήτρια Laulhé Shaelou και η Δρ Αντωνίου συζήτησαν την ανάπτυξη της πρωτοβουλίας από το 2018 και μετά και εξήγησαν τη δυνατότητα εφαρμογής της κοινωνικής διαμεσολάβησης ως εργαλείου επίλυσης συγκρούσεων διαθέσιμο σε όλους. Στη συζήτηση αναφέρθηκαν συγκεκριμένα παραδείγματα κοινωνικής διαμεσολάβησης στην πράξη και αναδείχθηκε η δημιουργία του Δικτύου Κοινωνικών Διαμεσολαβητών. Το Βραβείο Ευρωπαίου Πολίτη παρέλαβε εκ μέρους του έργου Social Mediation in Practice η καθ. Stéphanie Laulhé Shaelou, Ιδρύτρια και Διευθύντρια του Διεπιστημονικού Κέντρου για το Δίκαιο, Εναλλακτικές και Καινοτόμες Μέθοδοι (ICLAIM) και Επικεφαλής της Νομικής Σχολής του UCLan Cyprus . Το έργο Κοινωνική Διαμεσολάβηση στην Πράξη εισάγει το εργαλείο της διαμεσολάβησης στο πλαίσιο των συγκρούσεων μικρής κλίμακας στην κοινότητα ως ένα μη επίσημο εργαλείο για την πρόληψη, την αποκλιμάκωση και την επίλυση των συγκρούσεων. Στόχος του έργου είναι να δώσει τη δυνατότητα σε κάθε άτομο να χρησιμοποιήσει αυτό το εργαλείο για διευκόλυνση του διαλόγου σε καθημερινές εντάσεις και διαμάχες. Η πρωτοβουλία Κοινωνικής Διαμεσολάβησης, που διευθύνεται και υποστηρίζεται από το ICLAIM και το UCLan Cyprus, με χρηματοδότηση αντίστοιχα από το Institute of Citizenship, Society and Change στο UCLan στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο, το Κέντρο για Βιώσιμες Μεταβάσεις στο UCLan στο Ηνωμένο Βασίλειο και την Ύπατη Αρμοστεία της Βρετανίας στη Λευκωσία , παραμένει ενεργή σήμερα με επιπλέον εργαστήρια για επίδοξους κοινωνικούς διαμεσολαβητές, και με τη συμμετοχή εκπαιδευμένων κοινωνικών διαμεσολαβητών στο νεοσύστατο Δίκτυο Κοινωνικών Διαμεσολαβητών.
