Dr. Sonia Ajini

Dr. SONIA AJINI completed her studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Matej Bel in Slovakia. In 2003 she obtained a Master degree in Law, and in 2005 she obtained the academic title of Doctor of Law with her major subject being International Law. In 2014 she obtained an LLM degree in Maritime Law from the London University.

 

On the basis of her professional background and experience she has handled, counseled and delivered legal services on diverse cases including commercial, contract, corporate, banking, maritime, and financial aspects, as well as successful debt collection and recovery, mergers and acquisitions, arbitrary dispute resolution and complex corporate restructuring. Sonia has delivered legal opinions concerning multiple issues of Cyprus company law, employment law, and AML compliance and others.

Presently, she is a managing director of a Cyprus-based consultancy practice AJILEX LTD which she founded in 2018. She is also the founder and managing director of the Cyprus-based law firm SONIA AJINI & CO LLC which she founded in 2021.

Sonia holds various professional memberships apart from being a member of the Cyprus Bar Association, she is also a board member of various Cyprus companies and company Secretary of ICLAIM. Moreover, she is also an Associate Lecturer of the LLM module in Shipping Law at the University of Central Lancashire – Cyprus (UCLan Cyprus) and a Special Agent of the Liberian Maritime Registry for Cyprus.

Sonia also acts as legal advisor to the Czech Embassy in Nicosia, and has been heavily involved in consular matters referred to her by the above Embassy and the Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Nicosia. She is a Vice-President of the Cyprus-Slovak Business Association.

In 2011 Sonia was a founding member, vice-president and director of Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association Cyprus (WISTA Cyprus) and a committee member of the Slovak-Cypriot Friendship Society – both of which are non-profitable organisations. From 2011 until January 2020 Sonia was a member of the board of directors of the Cyprus Arbitration and Mediation Centre, and its General Secretary and company secretary.

She has been a speaker at a number of conferences held in Cyprus regarding commercial, maritime and arbitration issues and has taken part in a number of interviews  before the Slovak Broadcasting Association of Slovakia, concerning Cyprus and its laws and regulations. Sonia has also received a letter of appreciation from the former Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Miroslav Lajcak, in light of the long-term assistance she has been providing  to Slovaks living  in Cyprus.

In 2019 she received an Award from the Kivotos Golden Lady Award, in the category of Corporate Entrepreneur. In 2021 and 2020 she was listed by allaboutshipping.co.uk amongst the top 100 women in shipping.
